STEP
Student Tailored Education Plan

Reshaping how private tutoring works for your child.

STEP Education is a group of holistic educators on a mission to unify the people in your child's corner — parents, tutors, teachers, and support staff — through a single, personalised education plan.

Private tutoring in Hong Kong,
done differently.

Most students in Hong Kong receive support from multiple tutors, teachers, and counsellors — yet none of them are talking to each other. STEP Education was founded to change that.

01

Our Mission

We believe education support should go far beyond subject knowledge. STEP Education exists to build genuine, lasting growth in every student — academically, personally, and emotionally.

02

Our Approach

We work with parents to build real, cohesive plans that unify everyone in a child's life around a single shared direction — bringing clarity, accountability, and purpose to the whole team.

03

Our People

STEP Education is led by educators who grew up in Hong Kong's international school system and have taught across some of the most diverse classrooms in the world — so we understand the pressures your child faces, and the full spectrum of what it takes to help them thrive.

A living plan built around your child.

A Student Tailored Education Plan (STEP) is a personalised, collaborative framework co-created with you, your child, and their wider support team. It's not a one-time document — it's a living plan that evolves as your child grows.

01

Holistic by Design

STEP covers academic performance, behavioural growth, social development, and emotional wellbeing — not just grades.

02

Collaborative at Core

Parents, tutors, teachers, and support staff all operate from the same plan, with clearly defined roles and shared goals.

03

Built to Evolve

Reviewed at least quarterly, STEP adapts as your child grows — celebrating milestones and adjusting when needed.

Sample document shown for illustrative purposes. Each STEP is unique to your child.

From first conversation to lasting plan.

Every STEP follows a deliberate process — designed to build trust, gather real insight, and produce a plan that actually works.

1
Initial Meeting

Discovery with Parents

We begin with a focused conversation with you — no child present yet. This is your space to share your observations, frustrations, hopes, and goals for your child. We listen deeply before we plan anything.

2
Month 1 — Weekly Sessions

Getting to Know Your Child

Over four weekly sessions, we work directly with your child — building rapport and understanding their world from their perspective. We learn what excites them, what frustrates them, and what they actually want from their education.

3
End of Month 1

First STEP Drafted

Drawing on everything gathered from parents and student, we produce the first draft of the STEP — a personalised, structured plan covering academic goals, personal development visions, and proposed actions for every stakeholder.

4
Team Meeting

Review & Align the Team

We bring everyone together — parents, and any relevant stakeholders such as school teachers, other tutors, or support staff — to review the draft, refine the goals, and agree on roles. Everyone leaves knowing exactly what they're responsible for.

Implementation & Quarterly Reviews

The STEP is put into action. Every quarter, we reconvene to reflect on progress, celebrate milestones, and adjust the plan as your child grows. The STEP is never static — it evolves with your child.

Every component, carefully considered.

Personality, hobbies, interests, learning style, and what truly drives your child — the foundation everything else is built on.

Academic Goals

Specific, measurable targets — from grades to study habits — with clear action plans and responsibilities for the whole team.

Personal Visions

Short, medium, and long-term aspirations covering social, emotional, and behavioural growth beyond the classroom.

Team Roles & Actions

Everyone — parents, tutors, teachers, support staff — knows exactly what they're responsible for and how they contribute.

Accommodations

Any modifications needed to the learning environment, instruction style, or approach — tailored to your child's needs.

Milestones & Reflections

A living record of wins achieved and honest quarterly reviews of what's working, what isn't, and how to adjust.

Education rooted in
real-world experience.

I'm Kevin — an education coordinator, special educator, and youth mentor based in Hong Kong. I grew up attending international schools in Hong Kong and Beijing, so I understand the academic pressures, expectations, and culture your child navigates every day — not as an outsider, but from lived experience.

After graduating from Columbia University, I joined Teach For America — selected from approximately 49,000 applicants — where I spent three years as a Special Education teacher in New York City, earning my Master's in Teaching while helping my students perform well above historical averages. That experience taught me how to reach students across vastly different backgrounds, needs, and learning styles.

As an educator, I take a holistic approach — one that goes beyond the subject and focuses on building the whole student. I believe deeply in unity in strength: when parents, teachers, tutors, and support staff are genuinely aligned around a shared plan, the results are more consistent, more sustainable, and far more meaningful. That belief is the foundation of everything we do at STEP Education.
